Patty Maloney
A big thanks to Mr. Vipond for sharing, so kindly, vital facts and biographical info! You can see more of Patty here. Another very grateful thanks to Mr. Collins who generously donated the photograph of Ms. Maloney to SWAD.
Patricia Anne Maloney was born on March 17, 1936 in Perkinsville, New York, US. Her family, including her brother and sisters, moved to Winter Park, Florida when Patty was seven years old, in the 40s.
In Winter Park, Maloney joined Edith Royal as a featured dancer (she'd studied dancing since she was 3 years old) and attended Park Avenue and St. James High Schools and graduated as most young people do, though one of her summers in high school was spent touring with a carnival and another was spent with Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus. Just after high school Maloney joined the Nate Eagle Troupe where she learned more about the entertainment world than just performing, she gained valuable experience. Maloney's mother encouraged her to attend college and have something to fall back on, just in case, and Maloney did just that, she attended the University of Florida where she studied and learned to be a key punch operator. This skill brought her to New York where she worked key punch operator the a computer operator (IBM) with National Airlines and traveled to Europe, Cuba, South and North America. During this time she corresponded with a man she'd met at National Airlines, Joseph Vitek, a printer from Chicago and when she returned to New York they were married at the Actor's Chapel in New York then moved to Vitek's hometown of Chicago after the wedding.
After a short while her marriage ended, her husband Joseph died, sometime around 1973-4. It was also at this time that she lost her child. Her friends and family encouraged her to keep working and acting and that's exactly what she did. Sid and Marty Krofft were just starting to work on a new show called, The Far Out Space Nuts and hired Maloney nearly on the spot and it was necessary for her to move to Los Angeles, CA so she could be close to work. Maloney made her very first stage appearance at the age of three.
In 2010, Maloney was diagnosed with macular degeneration and was no longer able to read scripts. This was the only thing that slowed her down.
