2005 Broadcast Film Critics Awards chose John Williams the winner of Best Composer for Memoirs of a Geisha...though oddly enough didn't turn his nomination for the same film for best soundtrack into a win....Walk the Line won.
date Posted: Jan 11, 2006 4:10 PM I love that film, now I know why. It may also be that it's a great plot has good dialogue and has Zhang Ziyi. How fabulous.
date Posted: Jan 11, 2006 4:34 PM Never saw it. I was unaware that Williams did the music for it. That is great that he got another award he is truly amazing.
date Posted: Jan 11, 2006 4:56 PM Did I mention it had Zhang Ziyi. (sweat rolls down his face, he then abruptly faints on the keyboard). yfhvffjuhrjegvbfe. Sorry my head hit the keys.

date Posted: Jan 11, 2006 4:58 PM I've not seen the film yet but I received the book several years ago as a birthday gift and couldn't put it down. I fell in love with the story. Interesting, but cool, that they chose Zhang Ziyi for the role of a Japanese Geisha. hehe
This was the score Williams was working on in lieu of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

"Is JW up for an Oscar on Memoirs of a Geisha? They gave him the shaft on ROTS, which isn't unexpected." The nominations will be announced on January 31. We'll see then.
date Posted: Jan 11, 2006 6:11 PM Aye, we dont know for sure he's been snubbed for ROTS... though yes he likely will be snubbed.
Nice to see ROTS is in final running (likely nominated) for sound editing, visual fx and makeup. Im betting it also will get nominated for costumes and sound mixing. Thatll be 5, which if it swept, could end up being the top winner haha, imagine that. That'd so stick it to those stuffy jerks in hollywood
Ive been looking around at alot of poles and predictions and a surprising amount have Lucas listed as a "dark horse" for best director!! That end-of-an-era thinking that he could get a shocking nomination for the whole SW-body of work. Not likely but id be thrilled to see that.
